Tri-Cities’ HMG obstetrician & gynecologist one of only 12 in nation performing revolutionary laser vaginal procedures

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Of the more than 42,000 obstetricians & gynecologists in the United States, Tri-Cities specialist David Marden, DO, FACOG, a Holston Medical Group physician, is one of only 12 trained in performing two new revolutionary procedures that are receiving national media attention—Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation™ (LVR) and Designer Laser Vaginoplasty™ (DLV).
Trained by the Beverly Hills’ LVR and DLV pioneer, David Matlock, MD, the new minimally-invasive procedures have been featured on E! Entertainment Television’s Dr. 90210.
Following childbirth and as you age, the muscles and ligaments surrounding the vagina can become damaged or weakened resulting in “vaginal relaxation”—a very common problem. The result is both stress urinary incontinence (leaking a small amount of urine when you cough or laugh) and a decrease in sensation during physical intimacy (due to increased internal and external vaginal diameters).
“One of the most common complaints gynecologists hear from patients experiencing vaginal relaxation is that intimacy isn’t the same,” says HMG’s Marden. “Previously, we could just suggest that they try Kegels exercises, even though, in the back of our minds, we knew that these exercises proved to be tiresome and without result for a vast majority of women.
“Not any more,” says Marden, who desires to utilize a more all-encompassing approach to care that will go beyond laser vaginal rejuvenation alone. “Now, I can not only tell women about laser vaginal rejuvenation but I can offer them more inclusive options for improving their quality of life, such as balloon ablation (dramatically decreases menstrual bleeding), hormone replacement therapy, or other cosmetic surgery procedures.”
The pioneered laser technique is a gentle precision procedure with controlled accuracy that results in a relatively bloodless surgery, rapid healing, and resumption of daily activities in a short period of time. Designed to restore the overall optimum architectural integrity of the vagina, LVR is an outpatient surgery that is not only safe but quick—performed in about an hour.
A related cosmetic procedure—designer laser vaginoplasty (DLV)—is a cosmetic procedure for women who are dissatisfied with the either the discomfort or the aesthetic appearance of their genital structures (often the result of hereditary characteristics, childbirth, trauma and aging).
“Both LVR and DLV have been developed as the result of simply listening to women and responding to their desires,” says Marden. “No one wants to age or lose optimal function in any capacity. Regardless of age, women want to look and feel their best.”
It’s important to note that both LVR and DLV are most often considered elective procedures, meaning they are rarely covered by insurance.
