About Dermatology
A dermatologist has the unique skill to be able to visually examine the skin and diagnose conditions that are often present at the surface and below the skin. Often, many infections, particularly those that are viral, are really systemic diseases with visible skin manifestations. With extensive medical training, a dermatologist is skilled in treating a variety of conditions. While skin cancer is one of the most common dermatologic concerns, a dermatologist also diagnoses skin disorders and diseases as well as cosmetic concerns.
About Mohs Surgery
HMG dermatologist Dr. Jami Lynn Reaves, a member of the American Society of Mohs Surgeons, is skilled in a special dermatologic surgical procedure that allows for a very narrow surgical margin and a high cure rate. The procedure is called "Mohs surgery". Mohs surgery is a microscopically-controlled surgery used to treat various types of common skin cancer. It is especially beneficial in anatomically important areas (eyelid, nose, lips) when the desire to only remove the necessary tissue while eradicating the skin cancer, Mohs is a procedure of choice by many dermatologic surgeons. |
