By HMG

HMG Duffield ribbon cuttingU.S. Congressman Rick Boucher and Virginia Delegate Terry Kilgore spoke on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at a “Ribbon Cutting Ceremony” celebrating the opening of Duffield’s first multi-specialty medical center—the new J. Bryston Winegar, MD, Medical Center (121 Advanced Technology Drive, Duffield, VA 24244). The 33,000 sq. ft., state of the art location provides the residents of Scott, Lee, and Wise counties with convenient access to primary care, and physical therapy/rehab services.

“Providing access to the same level of medical excellence that is typically only available in larger medical centers is now becoming a reality,” says HMG President & Founder Jerry L. Miller, MD. “It is with profound pleasure that we provide this new facility and its services to the residents of Scott, Lee and Wise counties.”

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology infrastructure, the building accommodates HMG’s robust electronic health information system.

A total investment of $7.9 million dollars has been invested in this project that will result in the creation of approximately 20 jobs, ranging from front office personnel to physicians. Of the total investment, $450,000 in grant funding was received from the Virginia Tobacco Commission ($150,000), the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority ($150,000), and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership ($150,000). Additionally, the utilization of the New Market Tax Credit program as a means of low-cost financing was instrumental in the completion of this project as well as additional financing obtained from Powell Valley National Bank.

“Hampton Roads Ventures is honored for the opportunity to use New Markets Tax Credits to attract private sector investment capital to this very important health care project. While others are debating solutions to America’s affordable health care crises, Dr. Winegar and his team are doing something about it,” said Robert Jenkins, Jr., HRV CEO and President. “This project will both create jobs and improve the lives of low income families and that is the true intent of the NMTC program.”

The medical center has been named in honor of HMG primary care physician J. Bryston Winegar, MD, who has been faithfully serving the residents of Duffield for more than 25 years.

An Open House Celebration (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) will follow the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
