Kingsport, TN – Holston Medical Group (HMG) Rehabilitation Services is proud to announce that Abram Arwood, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS recently earned his Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OCS) certification. The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS) grant this board certification.
Attaining certification as a specialist requires months of study followed by a rigorous examination process. Alan Meade, Director of Rehab Services at HMG, said, “Abram’s certification puts HMG Rehabilitation in an elite class of orthopedic treatments.” Only about 5 percent of therapists in the United States are orthopedic certified specialists. Meade said that Abram’s certification confirms his extensive knowledge and skill in orthopedic therapy.
Abram’s goal is to empower patients to regain their health and mobility by improving flexibility and strength. “My assessments are thorough because I tailor rehab to the patient’s needs and goals.” Ideally, rehab can make the entire body stronger because all the joints and muscles of the body are connected. “I help patients achieve their personal goals, whether it is back to playing sports or holding their newborn great-grandchild.” Abram says that it is rewarding to guide his patients on their journey to enjoying the pleasures of everyday life again.
Maintaining certification requires staying current on new techniques and procedures for orthopedic physical therapy. In addition to paperwork submission every three years, extensive recertification is required every ten years. Physical therapists may choose to pursue specialization in eight different areas, depending on the specialty in which they have an interest.
Abram has been a physical therapist at HMG Rehabilitation Services for more than four years and his primary location is HMG Rehabilitation Services at Sapling Grove, 240 Medical Park Blvd, Suite 1400, Bristol, TN. While he treats other patients, orthopedic therapy is one of his primary specialties.
