Dr WallenWith more than two decades experience caring for allergy & asthma concerns, Dr. Neil Wallen knows firsthand the benefit of seeking treatment for allergy & asthma related health issues.

“I have a lot of allergies and am very allergic myself,” explains Dr. Wallen, who attests his own allergies were much of the reason he decided to become an allergy & asthma specialist. “have the ability to be empathetic—I know the value of the allergy relief my patients are seeking.”

Board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology, Dr. Wallen is experienced and in the treatment of conditions ranging from asthma, allergic rhinitis and food allergies to atopic dermatitis, hives and immune deficiencies.

“For 80 to 90 percent of the patients I see, I can make a big difference in their quality of life—and that’s very rewarding,” explains Dr. Wallen.

Dr. Wallen’s Highlands Allergy & Asthma joined HMG August 1, 2008, after 15 years of a solo practice.

“I came to realize that with the changes in health care, solo practices will be disappearing,” says Dr. Wallen. “I wanted to position my practice so that I would be able to provide care for my patients in the midst of those changes.”

According to Dr. Wallen, who enjoys the administrative support and electronic health information technology of a group the size of HMG, the choice in favor of Holston Medical Group was a relatively easy one—based on the level of attentive care he wanted to maintain within his practice.

“The primary reason I chose HMG was that I was most impressed in listening to my patients who also have an HMG primary care provider,” begins Dr. Wallen. “Consistently, these patients seemed to value their relationship with their HMG primary care provider and the level of care they receive from HMG.”

“From HMG’s perspective, we are incredibly fortunate to have someone of Dr. Wallen’s experience and quality join with our group,” begins HMG’s Robert Lee, MD, medical director. “Dr. Wallen is genuinely a great fellow. His compassionate desire for excellence, not only in his area of specialty but also in patient interaction, make him an ideal fit for our HMG family of care.”

Dr. Wallen says he is looking forward to the camaraderie of fellow HMG primary care providers and specialists, adding that his specialty of allergy & asthma works cooperatively with not only family medicine physicians but also certain areas of specialty found within HMG.

“In treating patients, I work very closely with ENTs and gastroenterologists,” explains Dr. Wallen. “If I find that a patient presents with a non-allergy related condition, I refer them to a specialist who is most qualified to care for their condition. HMG is fortunate to have an excellent team of specialists and I’m pleased to be joining their ranks.”

As an allergy & asthma specialist, a large portion of Dr. Wallen’s practice is devoted to the treatment of asthma.

“In treating asthma, my focus is that of preventing the symptoms and long term complications,” explains Dr. Wallen, who has enjoyed tremendous success in caring for both allergic and non-allergic asthma. “I not only want the patient to be well today, but to be on program where they will be well the next year.”
