Holston Medical Group Receives Approval for New Surgery Center

By HMG

HMG MeadowView The State of Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency approved Holston Medical Group’s (HMG) certificate of need for a new multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center (ASC), Meadowview ASC, located on the second floor of the HMG Meadowview facility in Kingsport.

The formation of the center will create 35 new jobs and perform a projected 5,113 cases in its first year. It will also be contracting with a number of providers to provide anesthesiology, pathology and other services. In addition, HMG now has the ability to bring value-based contracting into the outpatient surgery market, promoting improved quality, lower costs and a positive patient experience.

Throughout the application process, HMG received letters of support on this endeavor from key local business community and Tennessee health community leaders, including the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce, Cigna, civic leaders and local physicians.

“As the champion of business in our community, the Kingsport Chamber supports new business development and expansion efforts that create jobs, add to the tax base, lower consumer cost, increase quality of life, support economic development initiatives, improve healthcare, advance education, benefit business prosperity, and make a significant and lasting positive financial impact on our community,” said Bob Feathers, board chair, Kingsport Chamber.

HMG will invest approximately $1.8 million in medical equipment and around $1.9 million in capital improvements to offer continued high-quality care and a state-of-the-art facility for the community. This locally owned surgery center will include three rooms that can be used either as surgery suites or for other procedures, such as endoscopy and other minor procedures. Meadowview ASC will be available for a complete range of procedures that can be performed on an outpatient basis.

“At HMG, our commitment to quality and excellence for our patients and community is behind every decision we make,” Scott Fowler, M.D., FACOG, president and CEO, HMG. “The new surgery center signals our continued effort to provide additional access to the cost effective and high-quality patient care this community knows and trusts.”

Work on the new surgery center will begin this year with an expected opening date to be announced at a later date.
