Holston Medical Group (HMG) welcomes Emily Owens, PharmD, BC-ADM, who will partner with HMG’s primary care providers to assist in medication management for HMG patients.
Owens became passionate about pharmacy at an early age. She grew up in Old Fort, North Carolina and frequently visited their small community pharmacy with her father, who had Type 1 diabetes. She recalls how helpful their pharmacist was to her family and was quickly inspired to help others in the same way. “I am most excited about building relationships with patients and empowering them to be motivated about their own health.”
Patients with multiple chronic conditions such as diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease often see multiple providers and are prescribed multiple medications which can interact with one another, causing negative side effects. Owens will work alongside HMG’s primary care providers to ensure patient safety in medication management. Owens will also work with patients to ensure proper education and understanding of medications to assist in achieving desired positive outcomes.
Owens is board-certified in Advanced Diabetes Management, with special interests in transitional care and social determinants of health.
Owens obtained her undergraduate at Milligan College (Elizabethton, Tennessee), her Doctor of Pharmacy from University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, North Carolina), and completed her residency at Community Health Care (Tacoma, Washington).
Owens resides in Johnson City with her husband, Kaleb. Her hobbies include hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities. One of her bucket list goals is to visit and experience every National Park in America.
