Richard Gendron, M.D., is the vice president of Holston Medical Group (HMG). Since joining HMG in 1996, Dr. Gendron has held several key leadership roles, including the chair of pediatrics, quality assurance, as well as evaluation and compensation. He began his role as vice president in 2008.
As vice president, Dr. Gendron assists executive leadership teams, such as the finance committee, director’s team, executive team and long-range planning. Dr. Gendron retired his community-based pediatrics practice in April 2014 and continues to work as a pediatric hospitalist physician caring for HMG pediatric newborns and children admitted to Holston Valley Medical Center as well as assisting in the pediatric after-hours clinic as needed. He is thankful for being able to function in both a clinical and administrative capacity and feels it gives him a unique perspective in the work he does.
Throughout his time at HMG, Dr. Gendron led various key projects that benefited the Tri-Cities community and the organization. Projects include the implementation of an electronic medical record, materials management software implementation and revenue cycle management. He continues to support HMG in maintaining quality care and improving the patient experience across all specialties and services.
Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Gendron received his undergraduate degree from Providence College, Rhode Island and his medical degree from the University of Vermont, Burlington. Additionally, he completed an internship and residency training at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia.
