Rutherford received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from King University and his Masters of Science in Nursing from East Tennessee State University, Johnson City. He is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, and the Emergency Nurses Association.
