With extensive interest and experience in nutrition and sports medicine, Dr. Shafer received his bachelor of science in human nutrition, foods and exercise from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Va., where he also completed a master’s of science in nutrition. He received his doctorate of osteopathic medicine from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, Lewisburg, W. Va. Dr. Shafer completed a family practice residency with East Tennessee State University and a fellowship in sports medicine from Cabarrus Family Medicine. The recipient of numerous awards and honors, including Resident of the Year, Dr. Shafer is an experienced researcher with graduate teaching experience in medical areas such as therapeutic exercise, kinesiology, and food selection.
