Alan Meade receives prestigious “Carol Likens Award”

Alan MeadeHolston Medical Group is pleased to announce HMG Director of Physical Therapy, Alan Meade, PT, MPH, has received the prestigious “Carol Likens Award” from the Tennessee Physical Therapy Association (TPTA). The award is awarded to a TPTA member who has provided exceptional service to the profession of physical therapy, demonstrating the virtues of the award’s original recipient, Carol Likens, whose vision, leadership and commitment to the profession brought the association through one of its greatest periods of growth and service.

Additionally, Meade has been chosen by the members of the organization to serve as vice president of the TPTA.

The association, headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, serves as an advocate for the profession of physical therapy, promoting excellence in physical therapy throughout the culturally diverse population of Tennessee

“I’m very honored by the confidence my colleagues have placed in me, in both the award and the election to serve as vice president,” begins Meade. “It’s my desire, in my new leadership capacity, to build upon the excellent foundation of the association, working to increase membership participation and involvement as, together, we work to pursue practices and legislation that will strengthen the physical therapy care Tennesseans receive.”

Meade has served within the TPTA since 1981, serving in various capacities, ranging from district level leadership positions to that of serving as the chair of the Foreign Educated Committee for the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. Additionally, Meade has served as chair and secretary for the Tennessee Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. He currently serves as consultant to the Board of Examiners in the areas of investigation and continuing competence. He is also a representative for the House of Delegates for Tennessee at the American Physical Therapy Association, among other currently held leadership positions.

Within the community, Meade, who has served as chair of Leadership Kingsport and of the K-Play for the Greater Kingsport Area, is the chairman of the board of Kingsport Tomorrow Organization. He is also a guest physical therapy lecturer at both ETSU, Johnson City, Tenn., and Walter State Community College, Morristown, TN.
