Holston Medical Group welcomes Erika Grigg, MD, to HMG Gastroenterology at Medical Plaza located at 105 W. Stone Dr., Kingsport, TN, and HMG Gastroenterology at Sapling Grove at 240 Medical Park Blvd., Suite 2700, Bristol, TN.
Dr. Grigg grew up watching her father practice internal medicine and knew she wanted to pursue medicine like him. She started her medical school journey with a concentration in dermatology, but as she continued her education and was exposed to the field of Gastroenterology while doing her Internal Medicine rotation, she fell in love with the field of Gastroenterology.
“I have a special interest in Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) since I struggle with this ailment as well,” said Dr. Grigg. “I can help patients through education and treatment options. We can collaborate with shared decision-making to develop a care plan that fits their needs. It’s important to find what works for each patient.”
Dr. Grigg is also interested in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), which includes Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis, and colon cancer awareness. “I believe colon cancer screening is essential,” said Dr. Grigg. “When caught early, colon cancer can be cured and possibly even preventable if polyps are found when they are small and easily removable. Colon polyps and colon cancer run in my family, so I understand the importance of screening and surveillance modalities, which could be potentially lifesaving,”
“I will have flexibility in my practice to be able to care for patients the way I would like to and focus my practice on outpatient Gastroenterology care,” stated Dr. Grigg.
Dr. Grigg received her medical doctorate at Ross University School of Medicine, Dominica, West Indies. She then completed an internship, residency, chief residency, and Gastroenterology fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga. After completing her training, Dr. Grigg moved to Kingsport and has cared for the community since 2012.
Dr. Grigg enjoys time with her husband, two children, and three dogs. She is active in Taekwondo and other forms of exercise, and as a previous competitive figure skater, she still enjoys ice skating.
