Heather Sergent, FNP portrait Holston Medical Group welcomes Heather Sergent, FNP, to its team of experienced providers at HMG Primary Care at Norton, 482 Hawthorne Dr., Norton, VA. Sergent joins Dr. Christopher Basham, Dr. Ashley Bevins, Dr. Michael Wheatley, and Dr. James Wilson to provide high-quality, cost-effective care for the entire family.

As a Wise County native, Sergent brings a deep connection to the community and a passion for helping its residents thrive. “I’m from this area – my heart is here, and my heart is with the people of this region,” Sergent shared. “I consider every patient like family, providing individualized care that meets their unique needs and enhances health outcomes across our community.”

As part of HMG’s commitment to the community, Sergent will provide whole person, primary care, including preventive wellness check-ups, care for unexpected injuries and illnesses, and ongoing care for chronic conditions.

“With several years in intensive and primary care, emergency medicine and hospice, I am well-versed in caring for various conditions,” Sergent said. “I believe in listening to each person so I can effectively assess their health concerns and partner with them to improve their quality of life and overall well-being, keeping them out of the emergency room as much as possible.” According to census.gov, emergency room visits cost $76.3 billion annually in the United States.

“In our rural, underserved community, many patients have complex care needs and have no choice but to turn to the Emergency Room for non-emergency care on nights and weekends, which can be costly,” said Dr. Michael Wheatley, physician at HMG Primary Care at Norton. “To address this, we’re extending our hours to give patients a more affordable, high-quality alternative that fits their needs.”

HMG Primary Care at Norton will begin offering extended hours on Monday, January 27, to address patients’ needs. The new hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 am – 8 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 8 am – 4 pm, open to established HMG primary care patients.

Sergent is accepting new patients who need to establish care with a primary care provider. She is looking forward to providing compassionate care as a part of HMG.

Outside work, Sergent enjoys hiking, kayaking, and spending time with her fiancé and two adult children. She is also an active member of Zion Family Ministry in Wise, VA.
