HMG announces opening of the new HMG Physiatry office, welcoming Frederick Terry, DO, and Mark Mehlferber, PA-C.

HMG Physiatry is located at The Pinnacle, 320 Bristol West., Suite 2B, Bristol, TN 37520. This is the exact location where Dr. Terry and Mark have been providing care for over 12 years alongside well-respected neurosurgeon Dr. Jim Brasfield, who recently retired.

As a physiatrist, Dr. Terry focuses on managing various conditions involving the nervous and musculoskeletal systems, helping people improve their overall function, and maintain their independence, and quality of life. Dr. Terry is skilled in evaluating musculoskeletal and neurological issues and utilizes laboratory testing, x-rays, MRIs, electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), and psychological testing to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions.

A first-generation college student, Dr. Terry is thankful for his mentors along the way who encouraged him to apply to medical school at the age of 30. Dr. Terry is now one of the most respected physiatrists in the region and is well-known for his attentive and compassionate care.

“I believe that as a provider, listening is one of the most valuable diagnostic tools available to me,” said Dr. Terry. “I learn more about what is affecting and concerning my patients by listening to them and those closest to them. Often, these conversations provide invaluable insight and always create the strongest patient-physician relationships. My goals is to educate my patients in layman’s terms about their condition and treatment options to enable them to play an active role in developing their treatment plan.”

Mark measures success by how well a patient understands their illness and the effectiveness of the care plan they set together. “I make sure to communicate and explain each diagnosis in easy-to-understand terms,” said Mark. “It’s important that each patient fully understands their condition so we can work together to create a manageable care plan for them and yield positive results.”

Dr. Terry received his doctorate at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, Lewisburg, WV., and completed his residency at the University of Virginia Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Charlottesville, VA.

Mark received his Master of Physician Assistant at the University of Nebraska and completed his undergraduate from the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL.
