HMG supports Kingsport Aquatic CenterHolston Medical Group (HMG) announced a $200,000 Kingsport Aquatic Center sponsorship at the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, May 16. This public-private partnership benefits the center, HMG and our region.

“Holston Medical Group’s vision is to engage our patients and the communities we serve to become the healthiest region in America,” said HMG President and CEO Scott Fowler, MD, JD. “As a community partner with a vested interest in the health and wellness of our region, we celebrate the opportunities the new Kingsport Aquatic Center will provide.”

With indoor facilities opening May 17 and an outdoor water park attraction opening May 25, the Kingsport Aquatic Center is the region’s newest, most comprehensive public aquatic and recreation facility. The $17 million center is located at the foot of scenic Bays Mountain in Kingsport’s Meadowview district and offers amenities and programming for residents and visitors of all ages, children through seniors.

HMG’s sponsorship provides funding for programming and maintenance of the aquatic center. As part of the sponsorship, the region’s only indoor Olympic-size, eight-lane, 50-meter pool will be known as the “HMG Competition Pool.” HMG will also have designated times to provide rehabilitative therapies and classes for their patients as well as the general public at the center.

“We are all working toward the same goal,” said Kingsport Mayor Dennis Phillips. “The state-of-the-art Kingsport Aquatic Center is designed to promote healthy lifestyles in our community. Having strong partnerships with groups like Holston Medical Group helps define the center as a true community venue.”

In addition to the HMG Competition Pool, the 46,000-square-foot indoor facility also features a leisure pool with water slide; a four-lane, 25-meter, zero-entry pool specially designed for instruction and therapy; plus one-meter and three-meter diving platforms. The center’s world-class pools and equipment are designed for all levels of competitive sports.

“This is an exceptional facility for strength, conditioning, and rehabilitation,” added HMG Chairman of the Board Dallas Shone, MD, and HMG gastroenterologist, who joined Dr. Fowler in the presentation of the check. “We are extremely pleased to be a part of bringing our region a recreational facility that will benefit families year-round, promoting a lifestyle of health and wellness.”

Outdoors, the Kingsport Aquatic Center features a water park attraction, open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, offering a large pool with a water playground and lily pad crossing, two water slides, a 900-foot lazy river and a concession area.

American Red Cross swim lessons, water aerobics, safety courses, facility rentals and lane rentals will be available in the new center. Complete birthday party package options are also available. For more information, visit www.swimkingsport.com.
