HMG Rehabilitation introduces orthotic inserts

orthoticsLower back pain? Knee pain? Sore feet? Whether you’re an athlete, a weekend warrior or someone simply tired of dealing with chronic pain, HMG Rehabilitation’s new offering of custom orthotics may be just what the doctor should order.

“If you have abnormal function of the foot, it often transfers up the kinetic chain affecting the knee, hip and lower back regions sometimes causing musculoskeletal pain and problems,” explains Ernie Dickson, PT, OCS, of HMG Rehabilitation. “Custom orthotics can help balance bio-mechanical imbalances that might contribute to other musculoskeletal problems.”

From a flat foot to a high arch, custom orthotics are fabricated to insert into shoes (of all types) for the purpose of correcting imbalances of the foot and ankle that can lead to chronic pain and musculoskeletal conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, shin splints, knee pain, lower back pain and other orthopedic problems.

Unlike over-the-counter generic products, custom orthotics are specially designed to meet each patient’s individual biomedical needs. Following a bio-mechanical analysis of the patient’s gait pattern, foot function and structure, measurements are taken for a custom fabrication of the orthotic.

“The custom orthotic inserts are removable,” explains Ernie. “These are heat-molded with specific motion control wedges added as needed to accommodate the patient’s individual foot structure correcting imbalances for better foot function.”

In addition to equipping patients of all ages with the custom orthotics, HMG Rehabilitation Services also instructs patients in particular exercises, which can be done at home to improve overall function, range of motion and strengthen weak musculature.
